In this day and age of Internet revolution, online games from all ranges have rapidly become a popular culture. A large number of teenagers are hooked to their PCs day by day just to play their favorite game. They say it is like living in a new world where players get to create their own virtual identities and find a sense of belongingness from the online community.

Ragnarok, World of Warcraft (WOW), Final Fantasy, Defense of the Ancients (DotA) and Rising Force (RF) are some of the most popular online games in the Philippine setting, while new ones continue to be commercially released. Recently, Z-Zone On Line Philippines Inc. introduced a new three dimensional massively multi-player on-line role playing game or MMORPG—OverSoul, Courage for Supremacy—a clan war aggressive computer game which originated from Korea and has already been famous in Japan and China before it finally came into the Philippines.

The official launch, which was joined by gamers, sponsors and media partners was held last 7th of March, 2009 at Netopia EGG in SM Mall of Asia, Aside from the grand eye ball, the day was also celebrated with Lion and Dragon Dance performance, free play, parlor games and tons of freebies.

Mabuhay Adventurero! (Welcome Adventurer!)” is how OverSoul greets its starting followers. More Filipino ethnic terms are showcased in the entire program as a player encounters its characters, villages and weapons. The team behind OverSoul says they really want to localize the brand since they are targeting the Philippine server. According to DJ Reclamado, VP for Marketing and Operations, the brand localization allows them to reach out to many players in the Philippines. We based it on marketing standards. The record sales for OPM is 86 percent, which is higher than foreign records. (This shows that) Filipinos are starting to believe in their own language.” The OverSoul team also aims to put in expressions in Ilocano, Visayan and other Filipino dialects. “If they are Visayans, we want them to stay Visayans, but be competitive in the global system,” adds DJ. The character selection includes Liloan/Tanon (The Warrior), Siraya/Alanya (The Guardian), Liadlao/Maguayan (The Necromancer) and Amihan/Danaya (The Wizard)—some well-researched names from native legends and folklores.

Apart from its localized features, OverSoul is free-to-play. Players wouldn’t have to spend much to enjoy the game. “Virtual items are available and top-up is exclusive to LoadCentral (www.loadcentral.com.ph) by the following denominations: 30, 50, 100, 300 and 1000.”

OverSoul eyes all types of market. It is hoping for the casual players to come in and be influenced by the hardcore players. In order to improve the growing community of OverSoul, the team exclaims that they have to listen to the players and accept what they want. “(It is) a collaboration between us and our players. We don’t want to impose what we want on them. They are not just our customers, but partners.” says DJ. By this virtue, more and more gamers are expected to be drawn to the magic of OverSoul, Courage for Supremacy as it steadily invades the online scene.
