Charmed by a Knight
By Willeth L. Laus

“Home is where the heart is,” goes the popular adage. And it is certainly true for me in more ways than one.

I have always been interested in homes. Architectural and interior designs fascinates me, even only in photographs – the reason for the presence of various home magazines and architecture journals in my humble abode. Oftentimes, I find myself playing interior designer at home… moving around furniture pieces and adding new decorative accents.

That’s why, I enjoyed without doubt my recent visit to Century Properties, one of the largest real estate firms in the country. Sales director Mr. Ian Lumberio showed me the impressive model structure and units of Knightsbridge Residences, an ongoing residential project to rise in Kalayaan Avenue, Makati City.

Knightsbridge Residences is a high-end 65-storey tower, inspired from the prestigious Knightsbridge district in London. It boasts of futuristic architectural design, hyper-sized amenities and interior design options. Yes, the unit will be delivered furnished based on the buyer’s interior design preference.

There are five interior design options available: 1.) minimal, which is characterized by smooth lines with touches of gold and red; 2.) oriental, which is illustrated through dark minimalist tones; 3.) culture, a play of contrasts in accent pieces; 4.) classic, timeless designs in warm browns and natural shades; and 5.) British modern, a fusion of old Europe and modern Brit flair.

I personally liked the oriental and classic designs; they’re both so sleek and simple. Wood has become my preferred material in furniture ever since the awareness for interior design grew on me – that probably explained my partiality to these designs.  The sight of wood soothed me… I felt close to nature. And it was nice to see how the designers injected classic accents in a generally modern design.

On the other hand, unexpected was my love-at-first-sight affair with the British modern design. The majestic mood that welcomed me as I entered the 60-sqm two-bedroom special unit made my heart skip a beat. I immediately felt the air of elegance, what with the tasteful combination of black and white. And perhaps, the music also contributed to the over-all ambience. Brit band Oasis’ song “Roll With It” was playing when I came in the room. (Oh, I love Oasis!)

Mr. Lumberio said, Century City where Knightsbridge residential building will be located, is envisioned to be a city within a city where nature fuses with the urbanity of city life. The entire area is a huge 34.8 hectares. Aside from residential high-rise, three IT towers will also rise at the Century City.
