The Shutterbug Bite
By Romina Tobias

Point….. and click – my quick and easy, foolproof formula in taking photos using any digital camera. I’ve survived with it over the years even when work would always require me to provide my own photos, despite the fact that I’m NO photographer. I may have attended a photography seminar once, but I’ve never taken any workshops nor own an SLR camera (although I would love, love to have one). But due to time and obviously budget constraints on my part, I’ve learned to accept my fate as just an admirer of photography.

But last week’s trip to a photographer’s studio made me rekindle my, what I describe to be as, my long distance relationship with photography. Totally Creative Graphic Studio, a modest but highly efficient workroom for photographers and graphic artists, reminded me of how amazing art and photography really is. Creative director and professional photographer, Jess Marquez gave me a little tour of their photo studio and briefed me with the creative process behind their services such as printing invitations (which come in really attractive and non-traditional designs), brochures, calendars, photo murals, and much more.

And with a scheduled photo shoot that morning for a travel booklet, I thought I’d get to see the man in action. But to my surprise, I, the writer, was requested to join the shoot as a model, which brought me back to my copywriting days in a broadcasting station where I’d often be grabbed for on-air plugs and marketing collaterals (If I’d charged talent fees back then, I probably would be holding my very own SLR camera right now). But with the friendly, adventurous person that I am, I never minded at all. I guess that’s also my “always glad to help!” attitude which I hope won’t get me into trouble soon.

All in all it was a fun day. I got a crash course in photography and modeling 101, so I think I got more than what I bargained for. Which one do I prefer? I’m not quite sure. You’ll just have to wait and see.
