People normally head to Gilmore Avenue for an affordable PC, laptop or other computer accessories but not really for a tailoring shop. Or at least I thought so.
Nestled among the numerous computer shops is Prince Albert Tailoring. It stands out from the crowded stores lining the avenue with its compact but comfortable interiors. Inside the shop, from one end to the other, you can see three working tables at the back opposite the fitting room while the receiving area is in front. The earthly color scheme, the cozy sofa and the relaxing music in the background, almost makes you forget that you are in one of the busiest avenues in New Manila in Quezon City.
Prince Albert Tailoring was established by fashion-loving entrepreneur Albert Castro Sr. in 1970 and has been one of the leading tailors in the Philippines ever since. The shop specializes in menswear offering custom-made suits, tuxedos and one-of-a-kind barongs, but also caters to women who like tailor-made blazers, shirts, pants and skirts. Its clientele includes business executives, government officials and entrepreneurs. Today, Prince Albert is now managed by his son, Bert Castro who also does a bit of designing.
The shop takes pride on their expert staff that has been with them since the beginning. According to Mr. Castro, their business is more of a captured market thus requiring them to be extra meticulous with the quality. He shares that he handpicks each fabric in the shop and personally assists the clients as much as he can especially when it comes to suggesting what would suit them.
Aside from ensuring the quality of their outputs and giving excellent service, Prince Albert Tailoring keeps up with the times through research & development. They constantly update themselves with the latest fashion trends, continuously search for new materials and are coming up with new lines. Recent addition is the custom-made suits, tuxes and barongs for children. Now your one-year-old can also look dapper even in his nappies.
Having suits or barongs tailor-made by Prince Albert Tailoring isn’t exactly cheap but it is reasonably priced. The shop offer packages for formal events such as weddings, debuts, proms and business conventions while regular clients get special perks. But don’t just take my word for it. See for yourself how excellent and affordable their services are. As Mr. Castro says with a grin, “Just visit our store.”
As I come out of Prince Albert Tailoring shop, I see the numerous computer stores once again. I remember how naïve I was just earlier to think computers are the only things one can find in Gilmore Avenue.
