Hi Ho! Hi Ho! It's off to Pre-school Camp We Go!
By Romina Tobias

It’s in pre-school where one discovers the fun in learning. Having your peers playing and learning with you all in the perfect setting of a home-like structure, with colorful paper windmills spinning in the wind, cheerfully painted walls, a hefty supply of books, all the art materials one could imagine, plus the all-time-favorite snack-time. It sure is heaven for kids and the kids at heart.

Opening up this wonderful world of fun and learning is Pre-School Camp - an early childhood center and school located in Magallanes Village that caters to children between the ages of 1.6 to 5.5 years old.  Established in 1993 by three friends, Annette Bautista-Oliveros, Gina Jalbuena & Margie Apacible, Pre-School Camp celebrated its 15th year on April 1.

Pre-School Camp offers 4 levels:

Toddlers Class       - 1.6 to 2.5 years old*
Pre-Nursery Class  - 2.6 to 3.5 years old*
Nursery Class        - 3.6 to 4.5 years old*
Kindergarten Class - 4.6 to 5.5 years old*
[*age range as of June of the current school year]

Open enrollment is practiced at Pre-School Camp, which means the children may come in and leave anytime within the school year.

Margie Apacible shares the challenges and fulfillments of running a pre-school, “Our main challenge is to ensure that when the children leave Pre-School Camp, they are sociable and motivated individuals who can interact with anybody and can treat every situation as an exciting learning experience.”

To achieve this, Pre-school Camp takes their philosophy to heart:

Pre-School Camp believes that the pre-school years are the children's foundation years.  The children must develop a harmonious relationship with the people responsible for inculcating proper values in their hearts and minds. So parents and teachers work together to ensure their well-being.

Pre-School Camp believes in providing a home-like environment conducive to the children's total development.

Pre-School Camp employs a developmental-appropriate curriculum to address the children’s specific needs.

Pre-School Camp believes that every aspect of children's lives is interwoven with play. When children play, they eventually look for others to play with.  Therefore, they start socializing with others. They are offered motivating and fun activities and games which actually introduce them to letters, numbers, gross and fine motor activities.

Pre-School Camp practices a developmental-interaction approach to learning.  Margie adds, “We offer a lot of hands-on experiences to the children.  We take them on field trips; we encourage them to explore their environment as well as the people and things found there; we also introduce them to resource persons who personally speak to them and allow them to ask questions in return. We see to it that there is a balance in the children's interaction with people, materials and their environment.”

”Fulfillments? … Over the years, we've been in touch with our Campers' parents and they happily inform us of their kids' successes in the big schools,” Margie declares.

For summer, Pre-school Camp offers a summer playgroup to children between 2 to 7 years old who will get to enjoy a specifically themed activity each week such as cooking and baking, arts & crafts, creative writing, and music and movements which introduce the children to hip hop and street dancing, cheer leading, yoga, judo, etc.

Also, the group of Monsour del Rosario will offer tae kwon do classes! Pre-School Camp also offers after-school tutorial services (one-on-one sessions) to kids in the big school - elementary & high school.

Enrollment for school year 2008 - 2009 is on-going!
