Unlike some people I know, I can very much survive a day without coffee. No matter how demanding the work day is, I will never rely on that caffeine-laden, bitter diuretic to make me function. I’m no coffee hater…I just prefer it served in a particular way, and in a particular place.
I may not be a coffee addict but I certainly am a Starbucks-goer. Starbucks Coffee House is more like a hub for non-serious coffee drinkers like me, because what they serve are more of hot and cold desserts-in-a-cup, as I’d like to call them. Who could ever resist a grande, Java Chip Frappuccino (P150)? Smooth and frothy coffee dotted with bits of chocolate, topped with the frap staple, whipped cream and fudge syrup. And sometimes, my ever changing mood for food will tell me to go for java alternatives such as teas and citrus fruit blends. A must-try would be the Pomegranate Peach Frappuccino (P130). It’s a refreshingly tangy beverage (like melted fruit sorbet) packed with nutrients.
Aside from their beverage list, and of course their delectable dessert menu (which is also one of the main reasons why I can’t forgo a Starbucks visit), I truly enjoy its ambience. I’ll never forget my PR professor telling the class, “Starbucks doesn’t only sell you coffee, it sells you real estate.” True enough, the warm and cozy space that Starbucks offers has served as a venue for my group study sessions, business meetings, and even some precious alone time. I can stay for hours and hours with just a good book or a laptop, as if it was an extension of my living room. And with the very friendly baristas around, I never feel like a stranger. I’m not rejecting the possibility of becoming a full-fledged coffee convert here… I can have strong coffee, but just put it beside a slice of chocolate cake.
