A perfect gift for Mother’s Day would be something sweet and thoughtful, something unique, perhaps something commemorative, something worth displaying for everyone to admire, and… good enough to eat?
At ChocoPix, ordinary gifts become extra special and extra sweet with its personalized chocolates – not just molded to your preferred sizes and shapes but imprinted with your most glamorous photos. What could have been the passé glass photo frames and the banal tinfoil-
wrapped chocolates are joined in an unconventional marriage that creates gift-worthy byproducts. From lollipops, coins, greeting cards, portraits, to CDs, and ornaments, ChocoPix will chocofy them into your own customized gift.
Christine Cox, sole proprietor of ChocoPix, shares how this sweet endeavor began. “ChocoPix started when I was browsing the Internet for gift ideas (my family has a gift shop/pawn shop in Cubao called Tixis), and chanced upon the Chocolography and the Chocolate Printing Company. I thought it would bea neat idea to be able to personalize chocolates since the trend nowadays is to personalize mugs, t-shirts, calendars, just about anything! So I did some research and bought a Food Imaging System (FIS) from the Chocolate Printing Co. Since Chocolography is not a franchise, I came up with my own brand: ChocoPix Personalized Confectionery. We import the ready-to-print chocolates from the same company, as well as the edible ink. ChocoPix had a soft opening last October 10, 2007 and formally opened October 28, 2007.”
Unlike other bakeries or confectioneries , ChocoPix does not use edible paper (the ones commonly used in photocakes). They print directly on the chocolates (molded milk chocolate with a thin white frosting on top) using FDA-approved food coloring ink and a special machine. Christine adds, “The industrial machine is about 4 feet in length and can print u
p to 300 pieces of chocolate an hour. We load the chocolates 'blanks,' as we call them, into special trays and feed them into the printer. The printer prints high-quality, full-color prints on the chocolate, and everything (except the packaging, of course) is edible.”
ChocoPix best-sellers include the standard lollipops, chocolate business cards, and chocolate coins. “During Valentines, we had our share of "secret admirers" who anonymously gave chocolates to their special someone. One client wanted 80 different pictures on each of the chocolate coins, and the pictures were so tiny and pixellized that it was really a challenge for our graphic artists. Clients are really specific but creative with their ideas. We've also had to do some retouching on the images, like covering up a bald spot, changing hair color, removing scars or removing people and backgrounds, and even superimposing a different head over another body. Since most of our clients give chocolates to their loved ones and include their own special greeting, we've heard and printed just
about every pet name there is, like lambie-pie or snookums,” Christine enthuses.
ChocoPix is the only confectionery shop that can print high-quality images on chocolates, truffles, and cookies. They’re continually expanding their product line and soon will be printing on cakes, hard candies, and other confectionery items.
So for your special mom on her special day, show your love, wit, and humor with a box full or more, of personalized confections. Guaranteed, she’ll find it oh so sweet.
