Flower Power Never underestimate the charm of a rose, or a daisy, or a tulip… By Romina Tobias
Flowers have their own language, don’t you think? Whether you get just a stem, a huge bouquet of roses or assorted wild flowers…you simply know what it means and you somehow understand what the giver wants to tell you. Yes, it can be tricky too (it can fool you sometimes if you let it). But whatever the message is, you can never ignore the breathtaking beauty of a flower.
Even at events, especially at weddings, I’m always amazed with how floral arrangements and centerpieces can steal the show (and no wonder how guests won’t hesitate to bring them home like some unspoken rule). Partly responsible for these steal-worthy designs would be the florist and designer, Michael Ruiz who makes sure every occasion is a memorable one. He says, “I started out as an event coordinator in Magdiwang Events Production and as part of my duty as the creative coordinator, I had to conceptualize ideas for our clients, until such time that they encouraged me to implement my ideas into the actual designs to be used. I then realized that event styling was my real passion or should I say, my calling; so Flower and Design Station was formally established in 2006.”
But there are so many florists out there to choose from. If I’d be planning an event, I’d be absolutely rattled. Every florist and designer would say that their unique services would be their one-of-a-kind ideas, but for Michael, it is essential that one must be really innovative to survive and to stand out from the rest of the pack. “I found that it’s effective when I create and invest in new equipment/materials for different event themes. Because most of the couples nowadays want something new and extraordinary…something that’s never been seen and done before.”
