Velvet Black, Emerald Green, and Tahiti Brown—these are just some of my favorite nail polish colors. I recently enjoy coloring my nails outrageously. It is a leisure interest that miraculously brightens me up and helps me survive my daily schedule. It allows me to pretend that my everyday life in the office is not entirely monotonous. I decide which color is best for the week. I don’t base it on the forthcoming occasions or on the corporate attires I am about to wear. I simply choose the shade that pleases my senses and compliments my mood.
For plenty reasons, I told myself that I would habitually treat my nails. But I never thought that I would ever consider going to a shop and let a professional do what I have already enjoyed doing. I am sort of a do-it-yourself person. If I can do it, then I’ll do it. And thrifty as I was trained to be, I thought it unreasonable to spend much just for nails, and that I would rather use the money to buy cakes and ice creams. Not until one afternoon did I have a slight change of mind when I visited California Advanced Nail and Skin Care (CANS) and  had the chance to talk to Jing Pastrana, CANS’ assistant marketing manager.
CANS is the first of its kind in Alabang area that caters to class A and B market. It is the only nail and skin care salon in the Philippines that follows the California State Board of Cosmetology Standards which basically denotes personalized and hygienic services. Leslie Matta, the owner, yearly attends a nail and spa convention in the states for further cosmetology education which in due course she would compassionately hand down to her employees from the executives to the operators. 5
CANS is 80 percent nail care services and 20 percent body massage and skin treatments. What I would love to try in this salon which I definitely wouldn’t be able to achieve at home is a nail enhancement procedure that instantly extends your nails to your desired length by making use of acrylic resin. Acrylic nails have a different luster than regular nails. They are also much stronger and are not easily chipped off even in carrying out household chores.
CANS also offers spa manicure and pedicure, facial and body scrub, massage therapies, and body waxing. See, this could just be the place for everyone! Moms can tag their kids along and have them relax on the kiddie spa chairs. Hubbies are welcome to try the aromatherapy massage while waiting for their wives. Whereas boyfriends may also come in with their girlfriends and have their own nails manicured since it has been an ongoing trend for males too!
Now, I think it wouldn’t hurt in any way if I consider some help in getting my nails done. After all, this is what I need—a luxurious pampering after a stressful day in the office.
